Exceptional Student Education ~ IEP Preparation

Suggestions for IEP Meetings:

A.     Have in Hand……
A list of information regarding your child's strengths, needs, and progress that may impact his or her achievement.

B.  Ask How Your Child…..

  • is evaluated.(Are comments/grades related to IEP objectives?)

  • is included in general education classes.

  • interacts with classmates in group activities.

  • gets along with other children during unstructured time.

C.  And the Teacher May Ask…..

             *  about how your child spends time after school.
      *  questions related to health.
      *  what responsibilities your child has at home.
      *  which type of discipline you think works best.

           Remember...

Pre-conferences with teachers, counselor, psychologist, principal and or central Exceptional Student Education (ESE) personnel may be beneficial.

There may be many meeting participants.  Your own support people may attend the IEP meeting, as well.

If you have questions about the IEP's implementation, contact:

  • Your child's teacher

  • An administrator at your child's school

  • The staffing specialist assigned to your child's school.
