Intensive Academics (IA) KG ~ 8th Grade

The Intensive
Academics program is for students identified by the IEP team as
requiring specialized reading instruction with intensity beyond that
which they would receive in an inclusive intensive reading class.
Typically, students identified have received reading instruction
with ESE supports in a less restrictive setting. They function more
than 2 years below grade level in reading and have scored substantially below average on the SAT-10 or FCAT. In the IA program,
academic delay is the primary student need rather than behavior.
Students in IA require and receive a daily minimum of 120 minutes
of small group, direct, systematic reading instruction in oral
language, phonemic
awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
The Core Intervention Reading Program (CIRP),
approved by the Lee County School District, will be implemented in
all IA class rooms for consistency throughout the district.

This service is available, based on IEP
decisions, to elementary, middle and high school students in the district at
selected locations in each attendance zone. The Student Assignment Department
handles all school registration for the School district of Lee County. Click
