Pre-K ESE Program Descriptions
(for Pre-K students already enrolled in the public school system)


Pre-K Social Communication

A full-time program that focuses on pre-k students who demonstrate the significant language and social delays frequently displayed by children diagnosed with Autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Students identified for this highly structured specialized program receive educational instruction and therapies targeting behavior, sensory integration, communication and social interaction.

* This specialized program has specific criteria for placement through the Exceptional Student Education Department.  This service is available to Pre-K students in the district at a selected location in each attendance zone. 

Pre-K Consultation

Pre-k teachers and pre-k Specialists meet regularly to plan, implement and monitor instructional alternatives designed to ensure that the student with an exceptionality is successful in the general education Pre-K classroom.  All teachers providing support to students via consultation with the students’ general education teachers are required to maintain a record of the curricular topics related to the ESE students to whom they provide services. 

* This specialized program has specific criteria for support through the Exceptional Student Education Department.

Pre-K Functional Skills

Students, receive instruction in a self-contained classroom with emphasis on teaching self-help skills, daily living skills, functional or augmentative communication skills, and pre-vocational skills, as indicated by the student's IEP.

* This specialized program has specific criteria for placement through the Exceptional Student Education Department.  This service is available to Pre-K students in the district at a selected location in each attendance zone. 

Pre-K Hearing Impaired 

Students receive instruction in a separate classroom with emphasis on language acquisition, speech and language development, auditory training
and speech reading.

This specialized program has specific criteria for placement through the Exceptional Student Education Department.  This service is provided at a selected location. 

Pre-K Speech/Language

A part-time program for pre-k students with communication disabilities which offers a variety of service delivery models depending on the student’s specific speech and language needs.

* This service is available, based on IEP decisions, to Pre-K students in the district at selected locations.

Pre-K Varying Exceptionalities

A full-time program that focuses on the needs of pre-k students who are demonstrating delays in one or more of the following areas: adaptive or self-help, cognitive development, communication development, social or emotional development or physical development including fine, gross or perceptual motor.

* This service is available, based on IEP decisions, to Pre-K students in the district at selected locations in each attendance zone.
