 Frequently Asked Questions

  •  What type of testing do we do?

We complete psychological evaluations for students who have been referred for possible learning disabilities, emotional difficulties and/or gifted placement.

  •  Do we employ psychologists or psychiatrists?

The School District of Lee County employs school (educational) psychologists.

  •  What is the level of education of the Lee County school psychologist?

Our psychologists have earned a Masters degree or higher in School Psychology.

  •  Where do referrals originate? How do I have my child evaluated?

If a student is enrolled in a public or charter school the referral process is started at that school.

Talk to your child’s teacher (s) and guidance counselor regarding your concerns. The decision to start the referral process is made jointly by school and parent.

  •  What type of service does Lee County Psychological Services offer to children in private school and to those  students served in the Home Education Program?

The Psychological Services Department offers the same services to ALL students. For private school or home schooled students referrals are generated through the Coordinator of Psychological Services. (Exception: gifted referral is generated through student’s geographical public school).

  •  Is there a school psychologist in every public school ?

There is a psychologist assigned to every public school.

  •  How do I know where my child is on the list for evaluation?

Start with your child’s guidance counselor. If he (she) does not have the information, he (she) will help you obtain it.
